Jim Steers, a mechanical equipment service journeyman with UA Local 50 in Ohio, also works as an instructor for one of the best UA training centers in the country. He uses iConnect Training’s TU-9240 and TU-9250 controls training units in his lessons plans.
The TU-9240 HVAC Electrical Control Trainer teaches students the basics of electricity as well as how to set up a control circuit. Learn more about this simulator https://iconnecttraining.com/training-units/tu-9240-hvac-electrical-control-trainer/.
The TU-9250 HVAC Controls Training System is the companion unit to the TU-9240 that demonstrates the complete cycle of a residential heating and cooling system. Learn more about this unit https://iconnecttraining.com/training-units/tu-9250-hvac-controls-training-system/.
When he was an apprentice in school, the TU-9240 HVAC Electrical Control Training Unit had just come out and his class used them to build small circuits as well as learn how to troubleshoot. Today, he still uses this unit and the TU-9250 to give his students hands-on experience, especially since a lot of the components are the same as ones found in commercial-grade rooftop and residential units.
These HVAC controls trainers are great for students who are just learning and getting into the industry. They can start off small and then build more complex circuits. Everything is safe and in a controlled environment. Since they are built with safety in mind, future technicians gain confidence and real-world experience knowing they’ve worked on a similar system before heading into the field.
Steers starts his lessons by going over a list of parts needed to build a circuit. It could be any circuit at random. Then, the students take their wire diagram, draw the lines and put the pieces together. Their next mission is to wire up the trainer and actually make it work.
